      Dressing little ones for winter

Quick answers from the Urbanrac team

How many layers should my baby wear in winter?

A simple rule: one more layer than you're comfortable in. In milder cities that might just be a full-sleeve onesie with leggings; on a cold North Indian morning, add a fleece sweatshirt set on top. Take a layer off indoors so they don't overheat.

How do I know if my baby is too cold or too warm?

Feel the back of their neck or their chest, not their hands or feet, which are often cool even when baby is warm enough. Sweaty or flushed means remove a layer; cool to the touch means add one.

What should my baby sleep in when it's cold?

A footed sleepsuit is the easiest option: it keeps feet covered without socks that slip off, and the two-way zip means night changes without fully undressing. For babies under 12 months, paediatric safe-sleep guidance is to keep loose blankets out of the cot and to avoid hats while sleeping. Layer clothing instead.

Do the sweatshirt sets have snaps?

Yes. Our new fleece sweatshirt-and-jogger sets have shoulder snaps on baby sizes (6 months to 2 years) so they go on easily over the head. Sizes 2–4 years have a stretch crew neck without snaps.

Which size should I choose for winter wear?

Check the size chart on each product. If your little one is between sizes, go up a size: winter pieces are usually worn over another layer, and a little room means they'll last the whole season.

How do I wash fleece and sweatshirts so they stay soft?

Turn them inside out, wash cold on a gentle cycle with similar colours, and skip heavy fabric softener. Dry in the shade rather than strong sun or a hot dryer to keep prints bright and the fleece from pilling.

      About our winter edit

Winter in India isn't one winter. A Delhi morning in single digits and a Bengaluru evening in the mid-teens need different layers, so this edit is built for layering: fleece sweatshirt-and-jogger sets with snap shoulders for easy changes, striped sweatshirts for bigger kids, full-sleeve organic cotton onesies, footed two-way zip sleepsuits for cosy nights, and ribbed leggings to wear underneath.

Sizes run from newborn to 7 years. Mix a sleepsuit for nights with a sweatshirt set for days and you've covered the season.
